2024 Mustang RTR Spec 1

Introduction.

Available through Team Hutchinson Ford, this is one of the very first RTR Spec 1 Mustangs to arrive in New Zealand. This particular model is finished in 'Carbonized Grey,' and is build number '002'. This RTR also includes the ‘RTR Appearance Package’ which is detailed below.

Every element of the RTR Spec 1 has been meticulously engineered to elevate both the appearance and performance of the already exceptional 7th-Generation Mustang.

Engine & Performance.

Up front is the fourth-generation of the 5.0 V8 Coyote engine.

Power has increased from the last generation with the V8 now delivering 362kW @7250 RPM, and 567Nm @4900 RPM.
Beyond the increase in power, the system’s free-flowing design delivers a custom-V8 sound with the ability to close the valves to restrict the amount of noise made by the car. The fourth-generation Coyote V8 also features a class-first, dual intake and dual throttle body induction system that’s matched with structural improvements and upgraded oil pan. This helps minimise induction loss and enables higher air flow.

Exterior.

The seventh generation Mustang introduces a contemporary, sculpted appearance that blends seamlessly with its heritage-inspired design, aiming to resonate with a wider Mustang audience than ever before. The front end is dominated by a low, horizontal brow that accentuates the car's overall width, while the shape of the upper grille pays homage to the original 1960s model. The Tri-Bar LED headlamps maintain the Mustang's iconic lighting style. The sleek roofline, wide and athletic stance, and reduced rear overhang faithfully reflect the proportions of the first generation. Meanwhile, the broader rear haunches are a nod to the power that drives the wheels, staying true to the Mustang spirit. The roofline has been optimised for easy driver entry and exit, even with a helmet on during track days. The extended rear features a new, crisp signature tri-bar lighting and a redesigned diffuser that enhances aerodynamic balance at the back.

This Mustang RTR Spec 1 also boasts plenty of signature RTR style.

The gloss black RTR-badged Tech 7 alloys are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres, the fronts fitted with 255/40/R19 and the rear with 275/40/R19.

Interior.

Moving to the interior, this RTR Spec 1 features a modern digital interface with a 12.4-inch instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch central touchscreen, supported by the SYNC 4 infotainment system, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and real-time navigation. Additionally, the inclusion of advanced driver-assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist underscores the model's commitment to blending traditional performance with modern driving demands.

The12.4-inch digital instrument cluster allows for customisation with various animated designs and visuals that change according to the selected drive mode. Built using the Unreal Engine 3D creation tool, commonly found in modern video games, the current drive mode settings are showcased on the center stack through real-time graphical renderings. Adjustments can be made effortlessly by swiping the graphic, which virtually rotates the car in a dynamic, game-like manner.

“We’re taking advantage of every pixel,” said Craig Sandvig, Ford Mustang interaction design manager. “We can be creative in showing necessary driving information and give the driver control of selecting vibrant colour schemes new to Mustang, classic Mustang gauges or even a ‘calm’ screen where only minimal details are displayed.”

The Drive.

The new Mustang pulls strongly through the rev range in any gear, all the way up to its 7500rpm limit. True to its heritage, the sound is incredible, especially in Sport or Race Track exhaust mode. The V8 is immensely satisfying, begging to be revved and delivering an exhilarating experience every time. The large 390mm front brake rotors and six-piston Brembo calipers handle intense braking, delivering huge stopping power and great pedal feel.

This 7th generation Mustang blends formidable power with cutting-edge technology, promising an emotive driving experience without compromising on everyday practicality. Its seamless integration of performance, aesthetic appeal, and classic heritage positions it as a standout option for those seeking a top-tier sports coupe.
