Exterior.

Finished in Wimbledon White with whitewall tyres, the exact same visual spec as featured in all of Ford’s launch advertising in April 1964.

The Mustang is a true classic that is known for its iconic design and styling. When finished in Wimbledon White, it takes on a classic and timeless appearance. This example is full of character and charm, unmodified, unrestored and completely original. The car has a lovely patina which can only get better with age, often such examples are more desirable than their fully restored counterparts.

The front of the car features a long, sleek bonnet with two prominent headlights on either side of the iconic Mustang emblem. The front grille is made up of a series of horizontal bars that give the car a sporty and aggressive look. The overall effect is one of simplicity and elegance, with clean lines and a balanced design.

Moving to the side of the car, the body is sculpted with gentle curves and flowing lines that create a sense of motion and speed. The wheel arches are pronounced, giving the car a muscular appearance. The side profile is finished off with the iconic Mustang badge on the front wing.

The overall design is symmetrical and balanced, with all of the elements coming together to create a cohesive and attractive whole.

In summary, the styling of a 1964 Mustang in Wimbledon White is a perfect example of classic American car design. With its iconic Mustang emblem, long bonnet, and sculpted body, the car exudes elegance and power. The clean lines, balanced proportions, and attention to detail make it a timeless classic.

Interior.

As you step inside you get a real feel for the originality as you do with the exterior. The steering wheel is still wrapped in the glove which was fitted by Denise Monti when new. This Mustang was optioned with the gorgeous full chrome centre console which really adds to the overall feel.

History.

  • Included with the car is an A4 ring binder full of History, including a letter from Denise Monti (original owner). Denise talks about her time with the Mustang and thanks Garry and Loretta for taking great care of her car.

  • On-line into production late March 1964 (Mustang Job One was approx mid March)

  • Off-line April 6th 1964, confirmed by the original vehicle identification tag on the driver’s door.

  • Production number is 108425, ie the 8425th Mustang produced (the very first Mustang was number 100000). Approx 20000 units were produced as launch stock for dealers by late April, and over 22000 orders were taken on the launch weekend (April 17/18, 1964).

  • Sold April 17th, 1964 (launch day!) by New York Ford Dealer Chas S Winner Inc to Denise Monti.

  • Delivery April 22nd, 1964 (paperwork included in the files with the car)

  • Denise and her husband Frank were stage and tv performers known as the “The Flying Agostinos”, and listed as “America’s most exciting acrobatic adagio act”.

  • Photo’s of Denise and Frank with the famous names of the era, including Sammy Davis Jnr, Muhammed Ali, Johnny Carson, Ed Sullivan and others, are shown below and included in the cars history file.

  • Denise sold the car in 2004 (ie one owner for 40 years, with the low mileage reflecting their years of stage performance and travel). The car was bought by a NZ wholesaler, who imported the car and sold it to a Mustang owner in Hawkes Bay (October 2004, mileage recorded as 48032 miles).

  • The current owner Garry Jackson purchased the car in June 2007 from a Trademe ad, realising that he had found something very special.

  • In October 2014 the car was featured in a lengthy story in NZ Classic Car, including the front cover.

  • 64MUZZ has been a special display feature at the 2014 and 2020 National Mustang Conventions, the latter in combination with one of the two 2015 celebration 50th Anniversary special editions. It was also a feature display at Ford New Zealand’s special dealer and VIP guest event to announce the launch of the new RHD 2015 Mustang in October 2014.

  • This car is a perfect, historical example of the very original, first ever Mustangs and the enduring success of the original 1964 launch, and Mustang marketing ever since. A prime example of all this is Ford’s Mustang 50th anniversary poster, as below.

The finer details.

The car is a time warp in terms of basic originality. The original paintwork is thin in places, testimony to years and years of polishing. The only replacements on the car are those that have been required by regular maintenance and servicing, undertaken by the Mustang Centre, Sydenham (receipts are in the files). Warrants of fitness have been issued by Team Hutchinson Ford. The car has not been restored or rebuilt in any way.
